Far Horizon Residence - Wanaka

back to New Housing

Located on an acre section in Far Horizon Park, Wanaka our clients brief was for a substantial family home with a strong Central Otago feel that was to be built in two stages.

The first stage was to construct the garage and loft which was to contain three bedrooms, utilities and living spaces and was to become a self contained unit once the main house was built.

The second stage was to construct the four bedroom family house. Linked to the garage block with a covered way constructed with exposed hardwood trusses and rafters the two buildings are brought together as one home. Courtyard spaces featuring an outdoor fire and hardwood pergola structures complete the whole development.

The exterior of the house and garage were constructed from locally sourced schist stone laid with a wider mortar joint detail to give a more aged effect. Recycled hardwood timber lintels over the windows and doors add to the feeling of an old stone homestead. Exposed rafters capped with copper and T&G soffits with cedar fascias are a feature of the roof.  The house also features solid cedar timber exterior window and door joinery. Internally clear finished panelled timber doors and timber trim along with solid timber feature floors help to connect to the natural materials used on the exterior.

The end result is a timeless home constructed from natural materials that blends into its environment and reflects the essence of Central Otago.
